The Greater Boston Real Estate Board is the oldest real estate organization in America, founded in 1889, representing over 9,000 members in the residential and commercial disciplines of the industry.  The Board’s core mission is to provide education, advocacy, and philanthropy to the Greater Boston Community. This scholarship, offered through the Greater Boston Real Estate Board Foundation continues our commitment to education and extends it to young people who are pursuing their dream of receiving a college education.


The Greater Boston Real Estate Board Scholarship has been established to provide scholarships ranging from $500 to $5,000 to graduating high school seniors who reside in Boston or the Greater Boston area. Click here to check if you live in this region.
This scholarship will be guaranteed for two years. Applicants will be evaluated on the following criteria:

 

  • Demonstrated Academic Achievement
  • Leadership Experience and Extra-Curricular Involvement
  • Demonstrated Financial Need
  • Short Answer Response and Essay Response

 

In order to apply for this scholarship you MUST:
 

  • Be a class of 2020 graduating high school senior

The mission of WinnCompanies' WinningEdge Scholarship Program, a subsidiary of the WinnCares initiative, is to provide financial assistance to high school seniors, high school graduates, and GED holders who are residents of communities managed by WinnCompanies or its affiliates and plans to enroll or is currently enrolled at a post-secondary educational institution.
 

Eligibility

  • Resident in good standing at a WinnResidential managed community
  • High school diploma or GED prior to Fall 2020
  • Accepted to an accredited college, university or professional trade school for 2020-2021 enrollment
  • College juniors applying must provide documentation of a declared major
  • Demonstrable financial need to cover tuition, fees, student housing costs

*Note that WinnCompanies employees and their relatives are ineligible for these awards but may apply to the WinningEdge Employee Scholarship Program linked below. Further, the employees and relatives of employees at WinnCompanies affiliates, HUD, or any other government agency that regulates WinnCompanies apartment communities or military bases are ineligible for these awards.


Selection Criteria

Applicants will be evaluated based on their academic performance, character, and their proficiency or potential proficiency in their chosen fields of study. Applicants pursuing careers in real estate, especially property management, will be given special consideration. Applicants that have worked to better their communities, or to support charitable causes through volunteer service, will also be given special consideration. All personal or identifying information about an applicant’s connection to WinnCompanies will be redacted for a volunteer committee of WinnCompanies employees to assist with applicant evaluations. uAspire will determine recipients of the scholarship funds based on the previously stated criteria.


Notification Process

All applicants can expect to be notified about the status of their application by the first week of June. Applicants selected for an award will need to return a letter of acceptance by June 15, 2020, to remain eligible.


Financial Considerations

The exact number of scholarships and the total amount of money to be awarded in 2020 will be determined during the selection process, at the discretion of WinnCompanies. Financial need will be a key consideration when determining individual amounts. It is therefore critically important that applicants complete a 2020-2021 FAFSA, and submit their 2020-2021 Student Aid Report (SAR) from FAFSA to verify their Expected Family Contribution (EFC).


uAspire College Affordability Advising

Applicants entering their first year of postsecondary education will be eligible to enroll in free college affordability advising services from uAspire courtesy of WinnCompanies. The mission of WinnCompanies' WinningEdge Employee Scholarship Program, a subsidiary of the WinnCares initiative, is to provide financial assistance to high school seniors, high school graduates, and GED holders who are children of employees of WinnCompanies or its affiliates and plans to enroll or is currently enrolled at a post-secondary educational institution.


Eligibility

  • Program is open to the child or legal dependent of an individual that has been employed by WinnResidential, WinnDevelopment or WinnResidential Military Housing Services for at least three (3) consecutive years prior to the application due date (May 4th, 2020)
  • High school diploma or GED prior to Fall 2020
  • Accepted to an accredited college, university or professional trade school for 2020-2021 enrollment
  • College juniors applying must provide documentation of a declared major
  • Demonstrable financial need to cover tuition, fees, student housing costs

 *Note children or dependents of executives at WinnCompanies with the title of Vice President or above are not eligible for these awards.
